Who and Why?
Raised by a band of gypsies, she was made to sleep on cushions. One Tryck Pony came about as a result of one girl's desire to enrich the lives of others (of course!). She decided that her place in the world was to do her one tryck. With the emu as her kindred spirit animal, she embarked upon a journey of self-discovery which included learning to play the saw, running away to the Circus, playing the accordion, writing in her journal, screaming in a silo, and doing all childhood things that children raised by gypsies on the run don't get to do.
And believe her when she says she's not doin' it for the money,
'cos there ain't no money in it.
Why "One Tryck Pony"? Because that's all she needs!

Justin talks about well, how do we say this delicately, the surprise transition his body went through while running his third NYC Marathon. And, he's not only a Canadian hockey player but he confesses that if you're dating a Canadian you gotta make the first move.
Why did he run, besides fighting cholesterol and staying in shape?
Justin writes - I recently found out that lung cancer remains the number 1 cancer killer among both men and women in the US.
What many don't realize is that more than 60 percent of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer each year have never smoked or have quit smoking. Unfortunately over 50 percent of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at a very late stage - Stage IIIb or IV. Sadly, only 5 percent of them will live for 5 years. This could be prevented if an early detection tools were available and continued research is the key. I ask for your generosity to make a donation which will go a long way toward finding a treatment for lung cancer.

Russell is OTP's first guest whose picture in a turkey suit was pasted all over south Los Angeles. He also worked at a leftie radio station and with lawyers who helped overturn anti-immigrant initiatives.
Wait, let's start from the beginning. My friend Rusty and I are huddled under a blanket in chilly LA talking about the awesome and surprising performance art he did in college in which I participated - continuing Show 59.
But the story takes a twist because Rusty left academia behind and became a union organizer, outfitting a mobile home with a big mega phone rigged to play a loud gobbling sound, jumping out in turkey suits to brighten spirits of striking grocery workers during Thanksgiving. Enjoy!

On my return to sunny LA, Rusty poured me a glass
of Scotch and I got goose bumps as I heard Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin for the first time. We will save that for another podcast.
